Equanimity Arts meets and works on the land of the Gadigal and Wangal peoples of the Eora Nation. We acknowledge their rich wisdom and interconnectedness to the land, water and sky. We acknowledge the lore, practices, societal structures, languages, and belief systems that have been embedded in this land for millennia and pay our respects to the ancestors who carried them through the generations and the elders who continue to care for community, culture and Country.

OUR STORY

Equanimity Arts is an artist-run social practice studio led by installation artist and Creative & Experiential Therapist, Madeline Fountain and artist, arts educator, and registered art therapist, Nicola Black. Their complementary practices in installation, painting, education and therapeutic arts inform immersive environments that bridge contemporary art and embodied relational practice.

WHAT IS ART THERAPY?

Art therapy is an established form of psychotherapy, delivered by trained art therapists (also known as art psychotherapists).

Art therapy uses art as the primary mode of expression, alongside talking with an art therapist. It aims to reduce distress and improve social, emotional and mental health by promoting insight, self-compassion and a sense of agency and self-worth.

During art therapy, you are supported by an art therapist to use art to express and articulate often complex thoughts and feelings through art making. This may be following difficult or traumatic experiences which may be hard to talk about.
